TSC Score Sheet For Primary Teacher Released Ahead Of The Upcoming Recruitment.

In the ongoing efforts to streamline the recruitment of primary school teachers in Kenya, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has adopted a transparent and detailed score sheet to ensure merit-based evaluation of applicants.

The Panel Score Sheet for Primary School Teachers, labeled Appendix 1(a), plays a vital role in the selection process by objectively grading applicants based on key professional and demographic criteria.

This score sheet is structured into four main scoring areas, with a maximum attainable score of 100 points. These areas assess Professional P1 qualifications, age, length of stay since qualifying as a teacher, and possession of a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (CBC Upgrade).

1. Professional P1 Qualifications (Maximum Score: 5 Points)

Teachers are awarded points based on the range of PTE (Primary Teacher Education) scores they attained. Those scoring between 6–28 points receive the highest allocation of 5 marks, 29–50 points receive 3 marks, while scores from 51–64 earn 2 marks. It is important to note that this evaluation does not consider the teaching practice component.

2. Age of the Applicant (Maximum Score: 20 Points)

Age is another key factor in the recruitment process. Applicants aged 50 years and above score the highest at 20 points. Those aged 47–49 receive 15 points, 44–46 years get 10 points, and those aged 43 years and below score 5 points.

3. Length of Stay Since Qualifying as a Teacher (Maximum Score: 70 Points)

This category carries the most weight, awarding points based on how long the applicant has been a qualified teacher. The longer the duration, the higher the score. Teachers who qualified in 2010 or earlier score 70 points, while those who graduated in subsequent years score progressively fewer points. The minimum score of 18 is awarded to those who qualified in 2024.

In summary, the TSC’s comprehensive score sheet ensures a fair, merit-based system that rewards both experience and commitment to professional growth. This scoring framework promotes transparency and consistency in the recruitment process for primary school teachers across the country.
