TSC’s 2025 Updated Promotion Interview Scoresheet For Secondary Teachers .

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially commenced promotion interviews for secondary school teachers and those in Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs). The process began on Monday, January 27, 2025 , following the completion of interviews for primary school teachers , which ran from January 13 to January 23. With 25,288 promotion vacancies announced for both primary and secondary school teachers, the competition has been intense, attracting over 189,000 applicants across the country.

Overview of TSC Promotion Vacancies

TSC initially advertised 5,690 positions for school administrators between November 12 and November 18, 2024. This was followed by an additional 19,943 promotion opportunities announced on December 17, 2024 , for teachers in job groups C1 to D3.

 

– 16,109 vacancies were allocated to primary school teachers

– 9,179 vacancies were reserved for secondary and TTC teachers

 

Due to the high number of applicants, the interview process has been adjusted slightly compared to previous years, with fewer questions and a stronger focus on document verification.

 

New Promotion Scoresheet Criteria 

During the interview, teachers are assessed based on academic qualifications, years of service, performance appraisals (TPAD), and age. Below is a detailed breakdown of the scoring system used in the 2025 promotions:

Academic Qualifications 

– Master’s Degree: 5 Marks

– Bachelor’s Degree: 3 Marks

– Diploma: 1 Mark

Experience in Current Grade 

– 7+ years: 50 Marks

– 6 years: 40 Marks

– 5 years: 30 Marks

–  4 years: 20 Marks

TPAD Performance Rating  

– 81% and above: 10 Marks

– 61% – 80%: 8 Marks

– 41% – 60%: 6 Marks

– 21% – 40%: 4 Marks

– 1% – 20%: 2 Marks

 

Age Factor  

– 55+ years: 30 Marks

– 50 – 54 years:26 Marks

– 45 – 49 years: 22 Marks

– 40 – 44 years: 18 Marks

– 30 – 39 years: 14 Marks

Extra Considerations  

– KNEC Examiner Experience:  4 Marks

– Presentation Skills: 1 Mark

Successful candidates will receive promotion letters  and be assigned to vacant positions, while unsuccessful applicants will be issued regret letters and encouraged to reapply in the future.

 

Documents Required for Promotion Interviews  

Teachers applying for promotions must present several documents during their interviews, depending on the nature of the position.

 

Mandatory Documents for the Interview  

1. National Identity Card (ID)

2. Original academic certificates (KCSE, PTE, Diploma, Degree)

3. Letter of appointment to the current grade

4. Most recent payslip

5. Previous promotion letter (if applicable)

6. Official letter assigning responsibility (HOI/DHOI)

7. TPAD reports for 2021, 2022, and 2023

8. Any other relevant testimonials

 

Additional Documents Required After Promotion  

To finalize their promotions, successful candidates must submit five clearance documents as per Chapter 6 of the Kenyan Constitution on Leadership and Integrity:

1. Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)

2. Clearance Certificate from HELB (Higher Education Loans Board)

3. Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)

4. Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)

5. Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) Clearance Certificate
